Studio Series: Meet Talisa Almonte
Meet Talisa Almonte.
Talisa is an Afro-Latina artist and illustrator and is the owner of a small creative business called Almonte Studio based in Queens, NY. Talisa has a background in fashion, graphic design and traditional fine arts.
What’s your Artist Statement?
Because of the lack of representation, Talisa's work encompasses predominantly Afro-Latinas and an overall sense of female empowerment. Her work is generally inspired by color usage, nature, TV/Film, pop culture and BIPOC representation, she's also inspired by the idea that art can be empowering and inspiring to others and believes in the importance of individuality, diversity and creating messages of positivity. Her eclectic background has given her the ability to adapt and meet client expectations while staying true to her artistic style. Some of her clients include: Marvel, Disney+, Lucasfilm, Wrappr, and Buzzballz.
Why JIGGY?
I love Puzzles and have always loved the quality of Jiggy's puzzles. I also loved that when you partner with an artist you really give that artist credit for their work and support them via social media.
What are you most excited about in becoming a JIGGY Studio artist?
Seeing more of my work as a puzzle and giving access to more people to buy my work.
What’s your puzzle strategy and ritual?
Definitely edges first! It makes the rest of the puzzle so much easier! I also usually like to have a drink whether it's wine or a beer and sit in front of the TV to watch a show while I puzzle. I also like to group pieces together while I'm hunting for all the edges.
If you could collaborate with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be?!
Dead, I'd definitely say Salvador Dali. I've always been a fan of his work because it's so conceptual which is not like my own work at all but I would have loved to have the opportunity to pick his brain and see what his thought process was like or the true meaning behind his work. For alive I'd love to collaborate with Lisa Congdon! her work is super colorful like my own and she has so much knowledge to share, it would be a dream to even spend a day with her and create something together.
Who's your dream guest for a dinner & puzzle party?
Honestly, I'm not sure haha
