The two iconic campus elements featured on this puzzle are the Sir Christopher Wren Building and the Lord Botetourt statue. The Wren Building is the oldest college building still in use in the United States. It is the setting for campus traditions such as Convocation, when new students flood through the Wren into the welcoming arms of the campus community.
The Lord Botetourt statue currently stands in front of the Wren Building. Lord Botetourt was the popular governor of the Virginia colony from 1768 to 1770 and a member of the Board of Visitors. Today, students decorate “Lord Bot” for special occasions. At Commencement each year, the Lord Botetourt Medal is presented to the undergraduate student “who has most distinguished him or herself in scholarship.”
